WHAT'S  AROUND

SHOPPING       Skipton, Kirby, Lonsdale and Settle boast varied and interesting shops. Each of these towns has their own market day’s with there special interests.

WALKING & RAMBLING       The celebrated three Peaks - Ingleborugh, Whermside and Pen-y-Ghent. The famous waterfall walk. Many other interesting walks of various energy levels to suite all tastes. We have a local gentleman to discuss various local walks, and discuss areas of local interest with you. We also have the relevant OS maps of the area to peruse.

GOLF       9 hole golf course at Bentham. 18 hole courses at both Settle (7 miles East) and Kirby Lonsdale (7 miles West). Visitors are always welcome.

RIDING HORSES       The local Rawlinshaw Riding and Trekking Centre offer a wide range of activities for both the novice and experienced rider and the experience of ridding through the Dales on a sunny afternoon is just wonderful.

CAVING      Britain's biggest cave system is within walking distance of Thorngarth. i.e. White Scare cave. Ingleborough Caves at Clapham (2 miles away) also offer interest and a unique experience to the caving enthusiast.

HISTORICAL         The area is saturated with buildings of special historical interest. Skipton Castle, Bolton Abby, Levens Hall and Topiary Gardens, Sizergh Castle, Lancaster Castle, Appleby Castle, Richmond Castle, Holker - and in not a few of these lurks the ghost of Lady Ann Clifford.

RAILWAY ENTHUSIASTS         The famous Settle to Carlisle Railway - 24 arch Ribblehead Viaduct (which is the nearest railway station for the line - about 3 miles away). Steam train excursions are run through out the year and the Embassy Steam Railway Museum is a short drive away. Worth Valley Railway from which to explore Haworth and Bronte Country.

BIRDS OF PREY         The nearby Falconry Centre offers a wide variety of birds to visit, the demonstrations are regularly given.

HUNTING         The Local Hunt - Vale of Lune - Hunt twice a week in the season from various venues in the area. The Pendle Forest Hunt also use this locality. On Boxing day the Vale of Lune meet in the Square - Kirby Lonsdale - very spectacular.

SHOOTING         Verious local landowners invite guns to shoot over their land during the appropriate months.

FISHING         Permits can be obtained in the village for the local streams which run into the river Lune. Also there are several specialist fisheries in the area. We would be pleased to forward a brochure or make arrangements at your request.

CYCLING         Should you wish to see the area at a more leisurely pace than by car - bring your bicycle - or we can provide. Yours would be secure over night and we could send you of with a packed lunch.
